Often listeners listen in order to get in a word of their own, not because they are sincerely interested in the person. We should explore what the speaker is saying... dive into their conversation, and ask them questions about what we've heard. sometimes i am honestly interested in what someone says, but i dont indicate that i am. the moment passes me by and i feel like a jerk. active listening is the key. i bet Christ was an active listener.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18173351.post-79366214313842904972007-08-15T05:15:00.000+01:002007-08-15T05:15:00.000+01:00Great post Jon!Allow me to add the following to th...Great post Jon!

Allow me to add the following to the discussion: If all your conversations, relationships, friends, and groups of people you belong to reflect things that you are interested in, enjoy and relate to, than maybe the only person you truly love is yourself.

I think we all need to relate with people who have interests and personalities that are different than us, in that we truly learn to love others. True community should always teach us, even push us, to love others who are different than we are...if it doesn't, thus excluding others who are different, than is it true biblical community?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04848446542370149924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18173351.post-77543414153002567402007-08-12T16:47:00.000+01:002007-08-12T16:47:00.000+01:00Interesting stuff Jon. So...Just kidding. I know...Interesting stuff Jon.

So...

Just kidding. I know I do this to people, it's not always about a lack of interest but sometimes the person is talking about something I know so little about I'm afraid to embarass myself by asking questions. Most of the time though it's just what you've said it is, a segway to change the subject.

That's a great Chesterton quote there. It's a great challenge to make effort to be interested in a person when it involves being interested in the things they do which you may not identify with at all however this is the same kind of effort used for me I'm sure when I blab on about some things.

The alternative is to live a selfish life and many choose it.Tony Tantihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14619319927519736211noreply@blogger.com
