Quite the Gift

We moved to Scotland prepared to not own a vehicle and have been walking for three months. In many ways this has been to our delight, and is a habit we will try to incorporate into our lifestyle as much as possible. But it has its limits. And lo and behold, some friends in our church have purchased for us one of these:

Among other things, this Mazda Bongo will open up the Highlands to us a whole new way. Quite the gift.

I am taking the train down to Burnley (via Glasgow) tomorrow to get it. Then I'm driving the same basic route 6+ hours straight back. I'm going to see (and yet not see) a lot of Britain tomorrow.

I think it is amazing that people could be so moved, yes!

...and kind, caring, generous people.

Great news about the vehicle. Also, Burnley is Forrest's favorite team, say hello to the town from her. It's great you can do a bit of exploring now.

Dave: I wanted to get a nice picture of Burnley for Forrest's sake, but I didn't see much. Burnley was dark and shadowy. It was night when I was there, however. But I was jokingly warned to "get in and get out", and then when I stepped off the train platform to meet the guy selling the Bongo, I felt like the whole area was one big dark alley. Then the dude drives up and I get in and we drive to another location to make the exhange (a tiny cornerstore it turns out). It was all very shady.

But I'm sure its a nice place!

Knotter: It pained me to be 15 minutes drive from both Anfield and Old Trafford and not to visit. Alas, maybe you come over and we'll head down there eh?

Stewart: Yes, generous and caring people.

Hey Dave, this may pain you even more: Next weekend I'm going to see Aberdeen at Celtic.

At least you will be cheering for aberdeen.

Come on the dons!!!!

Jon Coutts said...

The Dons hurt you this weekend didn't they?

Angie saw really nice Celtic jerseys and shorts in the kids' sizes for dirt dirt cheap at a sale today and walked away purely out of respect for our good friend Dave.

I deeply appreciate that sentiment.

And as far as Aberdeen beating Rangers, all will be forgiven if they give Celtic the same treatment.

Wow! How wonderful for you! I loved our pedestrian lifestyle in Scotland but we only had one child! I think it would have been much harder with two, let alone four. Have fun exploring!
